Chilliwack based artist, Ron Murphy, is self-taught and has been developing his own artistic techniques all his life. Starting out in the small village of Bluewater, Ontario with oil refineries on one side and a reservation on the other, Ron found a peaceful, magical connection with the earth, trees, bushes, streams and deep ditches which were in sharp contrast to the bright lights and toxic fumes of the refinery. Ron displays in his art the magic he feels from the earth. As he says, “Art is like the little boy who lifts up a rock and is excited by what is under it.” His love of nature was magnified when Ron moved to British Columba. The mountains, air, ocean and colours, have all inspired him to create vibrant oil paintings of scenery and landscapes. Discovering acrylic paints expanded Ron’s imagination and enabled him to develop vivid expressions and expand into mixed media creations. During Ron’s artistic career he has had many achievements: Founding the Centreville Art Emporium in Chilliwack, B.C., participating in Art Walks, as well as displaying numerous exhibits of his art in the Fraser Valley. He is presently a member of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Today Ron lives and paints in the mountains with nature surrounding him. Being a self-taught artist, developing his own techniques is exciting for him, something he loves, either engineering vibrant oil paintings or mastering vivid acrylic creations – it’s a “Ronnie”!
